Have you been dreaming of what it would feel like to wake up and never have to draw on your eyebrows again? If so, you are like hundreds of thousands of other people! Microblading has become one of the most sought-after beauty trends because it gives you the perfect brow without ever having to reshape or color in again!
If you’re in the San Diego area and are considering microblading, it’s important to find an artist that is experienced and has lots of amazing reviews! Look for someone you whose work resembles similar brows as you would want and make sure he or she has lot of experience.
Before you start looking for someone, it is important to note that microblading is not the same as tattooing! If you like the way microblading looks, you do not want to find a tattoo artist who has experience in permanent makeup and brows…you want to find an artist that specializes in microblading specifically.
So, what is the difference between microblading and tattooing? There are several differences between microblading and tattooing, including:
1. Microblading looks much more natural because the artist uses a tiny blade to add each stroke, really resembling fine brow hairs. Each stroke is hand drawn so it has less of an impact on the skin. Tattooing uses a machine, so the strokes aren’t as delicate and can bleed overtime.
2. Microblading is semi-permanent and will last about one to two years, whereas tattooing is permanent. Because microblading uses pigment and doesn’t go as deep into the skin, you will need touchups every couple of years depending on how your skin takes to the pigment.
3. Microblading uses pigment so the coloring with never change. As tattoos fade, they can turn bluish or brown.
4. Microblading is a lot less painful than tattooing. Tattooing can be painful especially when done in sensitive areas like the face and brow area. Microblading is a lot less painful because it doesn’t go as deep into the skin. Your artist will numb the area and many people compare the discomfort to heavy tweezing.
What is the Healing Process of Microblading and Tattooing Like?
The healing process for microblading and eyebrow tattooing are remarkably similar. They both take about 4 to 6 weeks to fully heal. Both healing processes involve scabbing and peeling and require a final touchup after the initial procedure. Because permanent ink is used, if you are not happy with the results of a tattoo, it is hard to fix. However, if you aren’t completely happy with the shape of the brow after the initial microblading session, it is much easier to fix. The artist will simply stay away from going over that area during the touchup and it will fade quickly.

Have you been seeing pictures of your friends or family member’s fabulous new eyebrows and are considering getting yours done? Most often people share the end result when their brows are beautiful and fully healed, but it is important that you understand the healing process before you go in for the procedure. The healing process is totally worth it, don’t get me wrong! But, there are several stages you will go through that you should know about before undergoing a microblading procedure.
So, how long does it take for microblading to heal? Well, in short, the full process can take approximately 30-60 days. What? You may be thinking that is a long time, but I will share the process in detail here to help you understand.
This is probably the most exciting day of your microblading journey. If you’re like most women who are going in for a microblading procedure, you are probably dreaming of the day you can sleep in ten minutes longer because you no longer have to shape and fill in your patchy eyebrows! What a dream, right? So, day 1 is magic! You show up, undergo the procedure, and leave with newly shaped eyebrows with beautiful hair strokes. At this point, they may be a little red and dense and appear a little darker than you would normally want, but they are full and beautiful and chances are you will be pretty happy.
Today your brows will feel a little more tender and will still be red. They may even be a little thicker than day one, but chances are you will still be in love and in awe of your new bold brows!
At this point, you wont notice too much difference other than the fact they may be a little darker than day one. The pain and tenderness may be less during these days.
Around day 5 is when you will experience a shift in the healing process. Your brow area will likely be super itchy, and you may experience the forming of a thick scab. Whatever you do…do not scratch! And do not panic! This scabbing process is not pretty or comfortable, but it is totally normal. The thick scab may start to pull away from the face around day 6/7 and this could actually be quite scary.
The scabs will usually flake off completely on their own by this point and you will see some changes in your brows that could be concerning. The skin is still in the healing process, so the color may seem faded or blotchy, but don’t worry! Again, this is totally normal for the healing process!
Around this time, you will start to notice the color coming back and filling back in and your brows will start to look more like what you’ve been dreaming about. You will start to notice how the pigment is settling in and if you want to add anything in.
Congratulations! At this time, you’ve made it through the healing process and are ready for your follow up appointment. Around week 4-6 after the procedure, you will have a follow up appointment. At this point a touch up will take place to give you the beautiful results you desired from the beginning!
If you’re on social media, chances are you’ve seen friends, colleagues, and maybe family members come out and flaunt new rich, full, fabulous brows. Maybe you’ve followed along with their microblading journey or maybe they’ve only shared the end result and you’re now wondering what the process entails, how long it lasts, how much it hurts…Well, you are not alone in these questions. Like you, most women are seeking darker, fuller brows that they no longer have to color in every morning.
So, what is microblading and what are the deets?
Microblading is a type of eyebrow architecture in which a microblading artist uses a tiny blade to make featherlike strokes with medical grade pigment on the epidermis of the skin, creating natural-looking hair like strokes. Unlike a tattoo, the procedure is semi-permanent and lasts about one to two years depending on your skin type.
When you go in for your procedure, your artist will draw the brow on to create the perfect shape and shade for your face. Once you have the perfectly sketched brow, she will then make tiny hairlike cuts in the skin to create natural-looking strokes. Each stroke is basically a small cut in the skin where the pigment can settle in.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing cream will be applied before the procedure starts. You may feel a little pull similar to a tweeze, but it should not be painful.
What happens after the procedure?
After the initial procedure, you should expect a healing process of about 4 to 6 weeks. Once you are fully healed, you will go in for a follow up procedure to correct any fading and to finalize the perfect brow shape. The first couple days you can expect to be a little red and uncomfortable. Around day 5-7 you will experience some good scabbing and peeling. The color will fade and change during the healing process and your brows may look patchy, but don’t panic! This is just how the skin heals.
Once the skin is done healing, you will go in for a follow up so the artist can add in any needed pigment and strokes to create the most fabulous new brows!
How long does it last?
Depending on your skin type, microblading should last for about 1 to 2 years. After that you will need touchups to keep your brows’ shape and robust color.
How do you know what shape of eyebrow you should go for?
Look through pictures of people that have similar face shapes as yours and see what eyebrow shapes they have. It is also important to look through pictures of your artists’ clients to make sure you like their work. Your artist will be able to help you pick the perfect shape for your face that goes along with your unique natural beauty.
